About Thompson Funeral Home

In 1914, A.W. Bartz started the Bartz Funeral Home in Garrison.  In 1930 Glen Bartz became associated in the business with his father and until 1937, it was known as Bartz and Son Funeral Home.  Upon the death of his father in 1937, Glen took over the business and named in Bartz Funeral Home.

Adolph E. Heinle purchased the funeral home in the fall of 1946 renaming it Heinle Funeral Home.  While attending high school, Dennis Thompson was employed at the Heinle Funeral Home.  On July 1st, 1965, Dennis and his wife, Clara, purchased the business and renamed in Thompson Funeral Home.  Dennis operated it for 11 years before selling the business to Thompson-Larson Funeral Home of Minot in 1976.  In April of 1978, Dennis and Clara repurchased it and ran it until selling it to the Loewen Group, Inc. of Burnaby, BC, Canada, but again became owners until 2001.

Ben Gehring worked for Dennis while in college.  After finishing college, Ben and Collette Gehring purchased the funeral home in 2001.  The business continues to be named Thompson Funeral Home.
